More About Melodie Campbell

Winner of  nine awards, Melodie Campbell achieved a personal best when Library Digest compared her to Janet Evanovich.

Melodie got her start writing comedy. In 1999, she opened the Canadian Humour Conference.  She has over 200 publications including 100 comedy credits, 40 short stories and 7 novels. She has won 9 awards for fiction, and has been a finalist twice for the Derringer Awards (US) and twice for the Arthur Ellis Award (Canada).  It didn’t  start that way.

Mel has a commerce degree from Queen’s, but it didn’t take well.  She has been a bank manager, college instructor, marketing director, comedy writer, and possibly the worst runway model ever.

Today, Melodie is the Executive Director of Crime Writers of Canada. Her Goddaughter mob caper  series has been called “Hilarious” by Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine.  Her humour column ‘Bad Girl’ appears in the satirical magazine, The Sage; Canada’s Best Source of Misleading News and Opinion.

Melodie was invited into the Toronto Press Club in1994.  There is no truth to the rumour that she once did a somersault off the Press Club billiard table.

More About Lynda Simmons

Lynda Simmons is a writer by day, college instructor by night and a late sleeper on weekends. She grew up in Toronto reading Greek mythology, bringing home stray cats and making up stories about bodies in the basement. From an early age, her family knew she would either end up as a writer or the old lady with a hundred cats. As luck would have it, she married a man with allergies so writing it was.

With two daughters to raise, Lynda and her husband moved into a lovely two storey mortgage in Burlington, a small city on the water just outside Toronto. While the girls are grown and gone, Lynda and her husband are still there. And yes, there is a cat – a beautiful, if spoiled, Birman.
When she’s not writing or teaching, Lynda gives serious thought to using the treadmill in her basement. Fortunately, she’s found that if she waits long enough, something urgent will pop up and save her - like a phone call or an e-mail or a whistling kettle. Or even that cat just looking for a little more attention!

Her second novel, West of Wawa won the 2012 IPPY Silver Medal Winner for Popular Fiction and was one of Chatelaine Magazine’s four Editor's Picks. Her third novel, A Glittering Chaos, launched in Spring 2013 to reader and review acclaim, and is about murder, madness, love and poetry.
Her fourth novel, The Witchdoctor’s Bones will be launched on April 30th, 2014 at the Supermarket, 268 Augusta Avenue, Kensington Market.

Our Night Out on March 24

Another successful evening where writers and readers have a chance to meet and mingle. Our featured authors were inspirational and talented. The readings were excellent. Here are just a few highlights from a fun and interesting evening.

The evening begins with a get-to-meet-you gathering of the like-minded catching up and delving deeper.

Eve Silver read from her novel Rush             There are no practice runs, no training, and no way out. Miki has only the guidance of secretive but maddeningly attractive team leader Jackson Tate, who says that the game is more than that, and that what Miki and her new teammates do now determines their survival and the survival of every other person on this planet. She laughs. He doesn't. And then the game takes a deadly and terrifying turn.

Morgan Rhodes chilled us with a scene from her book Rebel Spring.

Auranos has been conquered and the three kingdoms—Auranos, Limeros, and Paelsia—are now unwillingly united as one country called Mytica. But alluring, dangerous magic still beckons, and with it the chance to rule not just Mytica, but the world. . . .

Rio Youers teased us with the opening of Westlake Soul
Westlake dreams of a normal life—of surfing and loving again. But time is running out; Dr. Quietus is getting closer, and stronger. Can Westlake use his superbrain to recover . . . to slip his enemy’s cold embrace before it’s too late?

Our readers at Open Mic for Authors received a warm welcome and enticed us into their fictional worlds.

John Kenny (left)  read from his work The Spark. While  Joan Leacott (right) entertained us with a scene from Sight for Sore Eyes

We were introduced to Steve Shrott's (Left) Audition for Death  Limited Artifical Intelligence is Ann Dulharty's ( Right) Sci Fi novel.

Gina Grant read from her book Black Market Shadows.
The audience then tormented our featured authors with the hard questions. They look as if they are really on the hot seat don't they? Oh and Kate the flowers were beautiful!

Here is the team with their guests, left to right,  Ann Lethbridge, Kate Bridges, Morgan Rhodes, Rio Youers, Eve Silver, Margaret Moore and Mary Sullivan
