Open Mic for Writers
Are
you a writer, published or unpublished, who may be interested in
reading an excerpt from your work in front of a live audience?
If
so, we invite you to
participate in our "open mic " nights.
Here’s how it works:
- Your reading must be from a completed work of genre fiction (nothing partially finished). It may be from a novel, short story, or novella. There are no restrictions on the genre, but please keep the excerpt you are reading PG rated for sex and violence.
- Each reading will last approximately 2 - 5 minutes, depending on the number of volunteers. (If you go over, you may be whisked away by a giant hook, Bugs-Bunny style.)
- Please take a few seconds at the beginning of your reading to show us the cover of your book, and whether it’s published and available.
- There will be 8 – 10 spots open for writers.
- The sessions will NOT be scheduled in advance. Participants must arrive before 7:00 pm and place their name in a draw box. Then 8 – 10 names will be randomly drawn, and readings will take place toward the end of the evening.
- Feel free to bring promotional material to share on our “Mingling Table”.
- $5 charge at the door to cover the cost of the room.
- We’ll be using a microphone (but it’s a friendly one).
The
readings should be lots of fun, great practice, and you never know
what publishing professionals might be in the audience listening. We
look forward to hearing you read!
